Do you love the idea of getting creative with your voice, but have no idea where to start? It’s a big world out there and can feel overwhelming just to know where to begin. Check out my top tips below that can help you get into Voice Acting.
My 5 Top Tips:
- 1. Know how to act. If you haven’t had acting lessons before or if you haven’t been to drama school, go get some lessons. Voice acting is the same thing, having experience or some training can really benefit you. And can help you find the potential in your voice!
- 2. Get a good coach for voice acting so you can learn the ropes and understand microphone etiquette. Then you can get a real understanding of different styles of voice over and what one you really want to do. Audio books, commercials, video games, but never turn yourself off to any voice over work, you may be surprised at what opportunities come round the corner, so always say yes! No doubt you will always learn something from the experience.
- 3. Buy yourself some basic voice over equipment so you can practise. By having a understanding (even a little bit) of how the tech works can massively help when you’re in the studio on a job!
- 4. Practise, practise, practise. Voice acting is a skill in itself. Just like stage and screen acting differ from each other, voice acting is the same! It requires different skills that will need practise.
- 5. Get a voice reel done and send to agents. They are the ones who can really push you in the right direction for work. They have the contacts and access to jobs! A voice reel needs to show you at your best and having a coach guide you and work with you can really help. It can be tricky finding the right material that can really show off your talents!
